For most of its life a dragonfly doesn’t know it will fly. It swims through the water, growing and shedding off what no longer serves it. Finally, it gets the courage to climb up a reed that no one has ever returned from.
Somehow it knows it is its turn to climb, yet could never imagine that if it does, it will take this last leap of faith in itself; that it will shed that last piece and get its wings.
Many die before the reed, either eaten during a vulnerable molt or stuck in who they were before and suffocating in a life unfulfilled.
